A family has explained the details of a dream they believe led to the discovery of bodies dumped at a quarry in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums in Nairobi.
Speaking to the media, the family members claimed that their kin, Josephine Owino, who went missing two weeks ago, came to them in a dream, leading them to the quarry where several bodies have been discovered.

Their search mission, they say, is what led to the shocking discovery of bodies dumped at the disused quarry.
Peris Kenya Andika, Josephine’s sister, said the last time they were with her, she received a call from an unknown person, left hurriedly, and never returned.

She explained that Josephine later came to her in a dream to tell her what had happened.
“Josephine came to me in a dream. She asked me why I was telling her story to those who were visiting us at home. I was unable to speak because it was a dream. She then started beating me. This went on for a while. Afterwards, I found myself outside,” Peris said.

“Josephine showed me that I was standing on a hill. She pointed to where she was staying, and there was a circle of five men around. She said she was staying at that circle. When I turned back, she was gone.”
Several other family members confirmed having a similar dream of Josephine asking them to bring her body back home.
Everlyne Wetindi Namai, Josephine’s cousin, said, “She told me that she was out in the cold in water and asked me to go for her. I woke up, and she came back again on Thursday and asked me why we still left her in the cold.”

Family Starts Search Mission at Mukuru Kwa Njenga Quarry
Another cousin, Diana Kenya, said the dream prompted the family to commence a search mission at the quarry without knowing that it could lead to the current revelation of several bodies stashed in sacks.
“We paid the youth to help look for the body in case we could find it. We were just trying our luck. Unfortunately, when they looked, they found other bodies,” Diana said.
Peris, however, said they still have not found her sister’s body among those that have been retrieved so far.
“We looked at the seven bodies that have been retrieved, but she was not among them. There were three other bodies discovered, but they did not allow us to look at them because the locals were angered. So, they took them and directed us to go to City Mortuary to view the bodies,” she said.
Four more bodies were recovered from the quarry on Saturday, July 13, bringing the total to 14.

Ruto Condemns Deaths
Speaking on Saturday, July 13, President William Ruto said the government is still conducting investigations to establish the cause of the deaths.
Ruto ordered the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), National Police Service (NPS), and all the agencies involved in investigating homicide incidents to conduct thorough investigations and find the suspects.
He said the government will find those involved in the killings, stating that they have committed a crime against the law and humanity.
“We must find all those who were involved in the deaths of these people, and they will face the full force of the law,” he said. “We will punish them because killing a Kenyan in any way is against the Constitution and the human rights of any nation.”
Raila Odinga Calls for Speedy Investigations
Opposition leader Raila Odinga condemned the incident and called for speedy investigations into the murders.
Through his official X handle, Raila offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims discovered at the dumpsite.
He called for swift investigations into the discovery and urged the investigative agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
“It’s a sad and dark moment for Kenya. What we have witnessed in Mukuru Kwa Njenga pains me deeply. To the families who have lost loved ones, accept my deepest condolences. The perpetrators of these and other heinous acts must face the full force of the law immediately,” Raila said.
Mama Rachel Ruto Condemns Violence Against Women
First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto also criticized the incident, stating that the discovery is disturbing and heartbreaking.
She stated that the victims, most of whom she says are women, didn’t deserve to die and called for an end to violence against women.
“The discovery of the mutilated bodies of young women dumped in Kware, Nairobi, is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. Each of these women was someone’s child, sister, or friend, and no one should undergo such cruelty,” Rachel said.
“Violence against women must end in our country. Our condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victims. No parent should ever have to bury their child, especially under such circumstances.”
