The family of Ian Singoei, a 26-year-old man whose body was found on January 4 in Mwiki, Kasarani, Nairobi County, has recounted his last moments and autopsy results.
Singoei, the son of Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner Dr. John Korir disappeared on December 31 around the Mwiki area in Kasarani sub-county.
He was reported missing on New Year’s Eve, prompting an intense search by family and friends. The search ended in tragedy when his body was discovered in the Nairobi River near Northlands on January 4.
The devastating news was shared on social media four days after his disappearance.
“It is true, lan’s lifeless body has been found around Mwiki in Kasarani, Nairobi. The circumstances leading to his death are under investigation,” a statement from the family said.
The family stated that preliminary postmortem indicates Ian drowned. They condemned and dismissed reports linking his death to police abduction.
“He didn’t reach home after the New Year celebrations. We are just from the postmortem, and there is no foul play. He was intoxicated and might have just fallen; there are no signs of struggle or injuries,” he said.

Mother Reveals Last Moments of Son
Ian’s mother, Pauline Korir who serves as Chief Officer for Gender at Bomet County government revealed that he had been living alone in Kasarani and had just completed his employment contract with Koko Energy Company.
She confirmed in an earlier interview with the media that the family had launched a search for him after he was reported missing, five days after leaving the family home in Siongiroi, Chepalungu Constituency, Bomet County.
“He left home on December 29, 2024, saying he wanted to go get a certificate of service from an energy company he was working for. But I suspected that he was going to an end-of-year party with his friends and colleagues,” she said.
At the same time, the family reported that Ian Singoe’s fiancée became alarmed on the morning of January 1, 2025, when her repeated calls to him went unanswered.

She had also spoken to him the previous night, during which he mentioned that he was at a club celebrating an end-of-year and New Year party.
Concerned by his lack of response, the fiancée informed his brother, who also tried unsuccessfully to reach him. This prompted a search around the estate where Ian lived.
On January 2, 2025, the family informed his parents that he was missing, and the matter was reported to the police, escalating efforts to locate him.
“He is said to have left the house while clad in a maroon T-shirt, a navy blue trouser and slip-on shoes. It appeared he was taking a casual walk in the hope he would return shortly to the house,” the mother added.
According to triangulations by the DCI, lan’s phone went off on New Year’s Day at 2:39am, around Mwiki in Kasarani, with the police having told the family there was no incident reported around the area on the night of December 31, 2024.
“His cousin went to the house on January 1, 2025, after the attempt to locate him failed, and found the door open as he had not returned,” Ms Korir said.
