The father of Dennis Mokaya, a witness in the impeachment case against Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda, has refuted claims that Monda received a bribe of Ksh800,000 to offer his son a job.
Speaking before the senate on Thursday, March 14, Joseph Misati said that his son was lying about the DG promising to offer him a job as a commercial manager in exchange of Ksh800,000 bribe.
According to him, Monda asked his son to follow due procedure to apply for the position at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company Limited (GWASCO).
Additionally, the businessman argued that the money had be borrowed from the DG and he was simply returning it.
Misati also noted that the full amount was KSh500,000 and not Ksh800,000 as claimed by his son Dennis.
“As usual for friends, I don’t have evidence that he gave me the money because of the trust between us. The said Ksh800,00 was never sent from me to the DG. It is the DG who sent the money, so Dennis contribution is not there.
“In our social discussion including the refund of the Ksh500,000. I discussed with the DG about my son applying for the job in the county government just like a friend,” he said.

How the Money was Transferred
Further, Misati said that he sent the money to his wife and asked her to send it to his son Dennis, who was meant to withdraw the cash as the deputy governor had requested to receive the funds in cash.
“The DG reminded me that he had given me money some time back and asked me to return it. I transferred Ksh251,000 from my account to his account.
“He asked me to give him some money in cash, so I sent the money to my wife who then sent it to my son Dennis to withdraw the money from the nearest MPesa shop. It was late in the evening and there was no MPesa available so instead, my son sent the money to the deputy governor,” he explained.
According to him, none of the money was contributed by his son, who he claimed had been away for more than 13 years.
“My son has been away for the last 13 years. During that time, we rarely communicated, I used to send him some money for upkeep.
“He said he sold his saloon business, but I can confirm that he had no saloon. If he sold anything, I don’t know where he took the money. My son was lured, intoxicated with some of the evil to use him to fail the deputy governor,” he added.

Dennis Mokaya Cries While Confessing Against the DG
Earlier on Wednesday, March 14, Mokaya broke down before the senate as he narrated that his family suffered immensely after the deputy governor failed to meet his end of the bargain.
He revealed that he sold his business and other assets to afford the bribe that would get him a job in the county offices.
My wife did not take it easy. At that time, she was expectant after twelve years of trying and she ended up suffering a miscarriage,” he lamented.
Dr. Robert Monda was impeached by the Kisii County Assembly on accusations of gross misconduct, and abuse of office.
