Five Isiolo County Government workers are suspected of having stolen public funds amounting to Ksh. 196,016,910.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into the matter.
Moreover, the five individuals working in the Isiolo County Finance and Economic Planning Department, were allegedly used as conduits to channel the money which was allegedly shared among other county officials.
According to the statement released by EACC on Wednesday, September 28, the five suspects received the money in five separate installments between 2019 and 2022.
Daniel Lenyangume received Ksh. 48,697,530, Monica Rukwaro Ksh. 30,452,715 and Stephen M’anampiu received Ksh.46,971,100.
An additional Ksh. 20,432,965 was wired to Japhet Nkatha while Joseph Mburu received Ksh. 49,462,600.
As a result, the EACC has demanded that relevant payment vouchers and all necessary documents be provided for investigation, failure to which appropriate action will follow.
“The Commission has written to the County Government of Isiolo, through the County Secretary, to avail various documents required for the investigation, including the relevant payment vouchers,” part of the statement read.
“Failure to submit documents required for corruption investigations is an offence under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.”
Nevertheless, the investigations by EACC is expected to recover the lost public funds and bring to book individuals found guilty.
