Former director at the National Police Headquarters Charlton Murithi has died.
Murithi died on Friday, August 19 at 3am at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he had been admitted over cancer related complications.
Moreover, up to the time of his demise, Murithi served as the director of Kenya National Focal Point on Illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons. His department is run by the police but is under the Office of the President.
Likewise, Murithi had also served as a Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG), a rank below the Deputy Inspector General of police.
He also worked as the director of Internal Affairs Unit (AIU), commandant of traffic operations, Provincial Police Officer in Northeastern among other directorates at the police.
The former police boss has been battling cancer complications and three months ago he was flown to South Africa for therapy.
However, he was flown back to Kenya where he was admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after little improvements.
Nonetheless, a condolence book has been opened at police headquarters for those wishing to pay their respects to Murithi.
Moreover, his fellow police and colleagues said he streamlined the area and ensured professionalism reigned in the service.
“He meant well for the service in ensuring the best officers served where they deserve. We mourn him,” said one officer.
Nonetheless, in 2015 Murithi was tasked to investigate TV evangelist James Ng’ang’a over the death of a woman in a road accident in Limuru.
This was after people protested that the earlier team did not handle the investigations professionally.
There were also allegations of a cover-up involving a falsifying documents and tampering with evidence.
