Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has been arrested.
Orwoba was arrested on Wednesday, April 29, in the afternoon at Parliament Buildings as she attempted to access the Senate.
In videos seen by The Kenya Times, she could be heard shouting while demanding entry into the premises as heavy police presence stood by.
The Senator was seen carrying court documents, insisting that Parliament was served with the same before being whisked away by female police officers.
Gloria Orwoba Arrested Weeks After Court Ruled on Her Reinstatement
This comes a few weeks after the High Court dealt the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party a blow in its bid to remove Gloria Orwoba from the party and withdraw her nomination to the Senate.
In a ruling delivered on April 14, the Court declined to suspend a decision that found UDA’s expulsion of ex-nominated senator Gloria Orwoba from the party as unprocedural.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi directed UDA to comply with the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) order to reinstate Orwoba to both the party and the Senate.

UDA had argued that implementing the PPDT orders would cause its Electoral Nomination and Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC) irreparable harm, as it would be permanently restrained from enforcing its disciplinary mandate.
However, Justice Mugambi ruled that the party had failed to demonstrate that its disciplinary structures would be affected.
He upheld the PPDT decision, which nullified Orwoba’s expulsion from the party and the gazettement of Consolata Nabwire as her replacement as Nominated Senator.
The Political Parties Tribunal had in August last year faulted the party for expelling Orwoba without affording her an opportunity to sufficiently defend herself.
“The Court reasonably believes that the applicant (UDA) has failed to demonstrate substantial loss should this court fail to grant an order of stay of execution pending appeal,” the judge ruled.

Orwoba Woes
Orwoba Gloria Orwoba was suspended from Parliament in February last year from participating in House sittings after the Clerk and the House collectively decided to take disciplinary action over her misconduct.
This after the High Court gave the House liberty to take necessary action against her for failing to appear to summons over harassment accusations she had filed against the Senate.
Court documents showed that Orwoba alleged to have undergone harassment at the behest of the Clerk of the Senate and Senate in 2023.
She added that she had been denied travel opportunities despite the Clerk granting the same opportunities to specific Senators.
The respondents however argued that Orwoba breached the Parliamentary code of conduct, adding she had made various allegations on the Senate’s Business WhatsApp group and her personal WhatsApp status that touched on Senate business.
