Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has asked Kenya Kwanza leaders to stop 2032 succession politics and focus on assisting President William Ruto deliver his development agenda.
Speaking in Bomet on Monday January 15, Gachagua said it was inappropriate to talk about Ruto’s succession with only one year in office.
“The President has just been elected, it is only one year he has nine years to go and some of you are already talking about succeeding him. What is the problem with young people?” he added.
Gachagua said he will not be dragged into premature campaigns as he focused in assisting Ruto succeed in fulfilling the Kenya Kwanza plan.
“Let me say for the avoidance of doubt, I have only one focus as DP. I am focused in only one thing, assisting President Ruto to succeed and nothing else. I am not part of these other things people are talking about,” said Gachagua.
Further, Gachagua accused a section of the leaders of trying to destruct him with the Ruto succession debate.
“These people are starting this debate so that so that they destruct my work, they want me to fight back and call MPs to assist me.”
Gachagua to Kenya Kwanza Politicians
He said he will work with Cabinet Secretaries and MPs to help the president deliver the government’s manifesto.
“Those who want succeed President can continue, me I want him to succeed. But first allow us help succeed then afterwards you can succeed him,” said Gachagua.
The DP explained that such a debate is disrespectful to Ruto and a mockery to the citizens.

“It is being very insensitive to the people of Kenya; people don’t want to hear about positions and elections. They want conversations like development of roads, connection of electricity and provision of water,” explained the DP.
Besides, he urged the politicians to focus on delivering the plan and start succession politics after Ruto is reelected in 2027.
“I want to ask our leaders especially those in Kenya Kwanza, lets focus and help Ruto succeed and if you ambition and you want to succeed him which is okay wait so that he is reelected in 2027 and then you start planning on how you can succeed,” stated Gachagua.
Gachagua emphasized that succession politics should not be a topic of discussion at the moment.

Leaders Endorse Nyoro
His comments came after a section of leaders from Murang’a County endorsed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to be Ruto’s running mate in 2027 and succeed him in 2032.
Led by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, the leaders gave several reasons why Ruto to drop Gachagua in favor of Nyoro.
According to the leaders, the DP is disrespectful and cannot form friends across the country.
“Ruto should drop Gachagua so that he can pick somebody who can be able to make friends across the body, somebody who respects people,” said Nyutu.
They told Ruto that having Gachagua as his running mate could be a costly mistake for him adding that Nyoro is a better choice.
