Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that security agents using unmarked vehicles have been following him around.
In a late-night statement, Gachagua said the vehicles are parked in front of the gate of his Nairobi home.
He stated that the occupants are marking his visitors and following him when he leaves the home including when he travels to his rural home in Nyeri.
“Security agents in unmarked cars have been following me wherever I go. They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking notes of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua posted a photo and details of a saloon that was parked outside his home on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
He narrated how the car followed him to Church, when he stepped for lunch and went back to his home.
According to the logbook shared by Gachagua, the car is registered as a white Isuzu lorry or truck, registration number KDK2905, model NQR and it was registered on December 13,2022.
“Last Sunday, the below saloon car that was parked at the entrance to my residence trailed me to PCEA Kerarapon Church, followed me to where I went for a late lunch and back to the house! Upon checking the NTSA portal, I noticed that the number plates are registered to a lorry,” Gachagua said.
He criticized the security agencies stating that such surveillance and intimidation of Kenyans was last witnessed during the era of the dreaded ‘Special Branch’ during the 24 years of Late President Danile Arap Moi’s regime.

Gachagua Plea to Ruto
He pleaded with President William Ruto and the government to stop following him around.
Gachagua said the government successfully ousted from the DP’s position and should now allow him to enjoy his private life.
“I request the state to leave me alone! You hounded me out of office, and you should now allow me to enjoy my peace as a private citizen,” he said.
