President William Ruto‘s Kenya Kwanza government has fired the 300 employees attached to former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua.
The Kenya Times reached out to a senior official who stated that the employees were fired via phone calls and text messages.
“Some people were fired through text message and others calls depending on their Head of Department,” the official said.
According to the official, the employees signed a five-year contract meaning that they were supposed to work until the end of Kenya Kwanza’s first term.
However, the official mentioned that their contracts have been terminated, and they left their position after Gachagua was impeached.
The official added that the permanent and pensionable employees were awaiting redeployment to other ministries or departments
“The contract signed had indicated they would work during the tenure of DP Gachagua. So, their job technically ended after Gachagua ouster,” the official said.
Gachagua Employees Sent on Compulsory Leave
This development came after the government sent some of the staff members at Gachagua’s office on compulsory leave.
In a memo dated October 19, 108 senior officers and advisors were ordered to proceed on leave immediately.
All officers in Job Groups T and U and all serving officers in Supernumerary Contracts were among those affected by the communications by Principal Administrative Secretary Patrick Mwangi and copied to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei
“Following the ongoing Constitutional process affecting His Excellency the Deputy President, it has been decided as follows; All officers in Job Groups T and U are hereby instructed to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect,” the memo reads in part.

Kuria Revelation
This followed a hint by Senior Advisor in President Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors Moses Kuria that staff working in the DP’s office had been sent packing.
Kuria revealed that about 80% of the staff working in the Office of the DP were from Gachagua’s backyard, Mathira Constituency.
“80% of the staff working in the Office of the Deputy President were from Mathira Constituency. Tonight, they have all been sent on compulsory leave,” said Kuria.
