Laikipia Senator and close ally to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachugua, John Kinyua, has resigned as a commissioner of the Parliamentary Service Commission.
This comes amid reports of a looming purge targeting allies of former DP Gachagua.
News of the resignation was announced on Tuesday, November 19, in a Senate plenary session by Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.
In his notice of motion, Cheruiyot informed the House that Senator Kinyua would be replaced by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga.
The Senators present on the floor of the House voted in favour of Senator Wahome to replace Senator Kinyua in the committee leadership.

Kinyua’s resignation comes barely a week after he publicly apologized to the President during Ruto’s visit to Laikipia for voting against all the impeachment charges against Gachagua.
“Your Excellency, people sometimes create a lot of issues, and at times you may slip, but slipping isn’t falling. People slip and sometimes make mistakes along the way,” John Kinyua said.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that some of Gachagua’s allies who hold powerful positions in the National Assembly are set to lose their roles as the ruling party carries out a purge, which it describes as a routine mid-term shakeup.
It has also been revealed that Molo MP Kuria Kimani will replace his Kiharu colleague Ndindi Nyoro, as the chairman of the powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee in sweeping National Assembly midterm committee leadership changes.
