Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has rubbished remarks made by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga commenting about representation of Mount Kenya’s interests in the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during the President William Ruto-led tour in Meru County, Gachagua referred to a recent media interview where Senator Waamatinga opined that Mount Kenya region had made a mistake by not having a party to represent its interests.
In his speech, Gachagua termed the remarks made by the Nyeri Senator as “matope, a Swahili word to imply that the remarks were rubbish.
“I saw our Nyeri Senator getting excited while on TV, the Senator’s role is to oversee the county governments, the work and plans of the national government is a preserve for the President and myself,” he said.
Addressing the roadside gathering in Meru County, Gachagua also downplayed remarks made by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu calling for consideration of a change in Kenya Kwanza’s running mate in 2027.
He noted that the recent remarks made by the two senators was a sign of losing focus and challenged Deputy Speaker Kathuri Murungi in the Senate to guide them.
“Call those Senators from Murang’a and Nyeri and tell them they are out of order and that they should quit commenting on matters not in their court,” Gachagua said.
