Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while speaking on Friday, October 14 at Georges Restaurant in Rwanda urged Kenyans living in the country to be good ambassadors for Kenya in matters of trade and business.
The deputy president implored Kenyans in the diaspora to be hard workers and respectful to the laws of the country.
Furthermore, Gachagua noted that President Kagame was happy with their input to the country’s economy.
Moreover, The Georges Restaurant, where DP Gachagua made his speech is a major eatery in Kigali owned by a Kenyan known as George Gacheru who allegedly went to Rwanda as a waiter but now runs the successful business.
“President Paul Kagame is happy with the presence of Kenyans in Rwanda. He has encouraged Kenyans to continue doing business in Rwanda and I am asking you to do so while being good ambassadors for us, ” the DP said.
While addressing the challenges of welfare to Kenyans in the diaspora, the deputy president stated that the government is creating the State Department for Diaspora Affairs to deal with such issues.
According to Gachagua, creating the department would help Kenya boost its income, further stating that diaspora remittance was the biggest source of foreign exchange in the country.
Likewise, DP Rigathi Gachagua who also held bilateral talks with President Kagame noted that Kenya would formulate an investment system where the government would create securities designed for those in the diaspora.

“We will borrow directly from our people in the diaspora,” he stated.
Nevertheless, Gachagua was flanked by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi who was on a separate assignment and 12 MPs who were part of his deflation to attend the Youth Connect Africa Summit.
