The German Embassy has extended the application deadline for the International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS) programme opportunities targeting Kenyan applicants.
In a notice on Wednesday, May 13, the embassy stated that the deadline has been pushed from the earlier May 15 to May 29, offering more time for interested candidates to submit their applications.
“The application deadline has officially been extended from 15 May 2026 to 29 May 2026. More time to apply for the IPS Africa Programme,” stated the German Embassy.

Successful candidates will receive a monthly allowance of KSh106,000 under the fully funded programme.
The programme targets young graduates from selected African countries who are actively engaged in politics, governance, or social impact.
It will take place from 4 January until 2 February 2027.
The selected fellows will learn first-hand about the German parliamentary system and the political decision-making processes in the German Bundestag.
Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of 700 euros. Accommodation will be provided free of charge.
Travel expenses to and from Berlin will be fully covered. In addition, the German Bundestag will provide health, accident, and personal liability insurance.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Procedure
Applicants must be citizens of a participating country (Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda).
They must also be under 30 years of age at the start of the scholarship (January 1) and hold a university degree.
At the same time, they should have a good command of German (minimum B2 level under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and demonstrate interest in politics and social or political engagement.

Candidates must apply exclusively through the digital application platform IPS digital. Applications must be submitted in German.
Germany Sets New Visa Application Rules
This comes after Germany announced new visa rules for Kenyans and other international students seeking to study in the European country ahead of the 2027 DAAD scholarship intake.
The visa appeals process has been removed, financial proof requirements have been increased, and a new digital application system is now transforming how students submit their documents.

Under the new rules, applicants will be required to have at least Ksh1.8 million (€11,904) in a blocked account.
According to the rules, the funds must be deposited in advance and will be gradually released to cover the student’s living expenses during the study period.
Germany argues the requirement is meant to ensure that students can fully support themselves without financial strain while studying in the country.
The European country has advised students planning to enroll in German universities for the Winter 2027 intake to be aware of these changes in advance to avoid costly delays or unsuccessful applications.
