Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has hit out at the Mount Kenya region for making history in impeaching governors.
Kuria made reference to the successful impeachment of former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu noting that the region made history for becoming the first to impeach a governor.
Further, he mentioned the fresh move by a section of members of the Meru County Assembly (MCAs) to impeach Kawira Mwangaza barely a year after a similar process.
“In the last term, Kiambu County from Mt Kenya region made history by becoming the first county to successfully impeach a Governor. In this term Meru County in Mt Kenya region is determined to become the first County to successfully impeach the Governor,” Kuria stated.
Additionally, the trade CS questioned whether the constant impeachment motions had anything to do with the Mt Kenya region soil or climatic conditions asking the leaders in the region to let go of the trend.
“Unless impeachment has something to do with the soils, altitude or climatic conditions, it is necessary for Mt Kenya region to give other regions an opportunity to impeach their Governors in the spirit of inclusivity, diversity and national cohesion,” added Kuria.

33 Members of the County Assembly (MCA’s) have agreed to support the motion that seeks to throw out Governor Mwangaza, accusing her of failing to offer effective services as the county boss.
Additionally, the MCAs cautioned the county boss against evoking sympathy and using the gender card and spiritual narrative to stir emotions.
“We express support for the impeachment of the governor for the best interest of the people of Meru County and commit ourselves without reservation to this course which we commence forth way.

“All MCAs have signed and even the voters could have done the same, we will support the impeachment motion until Meru goes back to a development trajectory during the reign of Kiraitu Murungi and Peter Munya,” stated one of the MCAs.
Kawira Mwangaza 1st Impeachment Motion
Earlier in December 2022, an 11 member Senate Special Committee saved the Meru governor from impeachment stating that none of the accusations against her were proven.
Led by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, the committee submitted before the Senate that it had voted unanimously in its decision to overturn Kawira’s impeachment.
“Honorable Senators, the committee has found all allegations against the Governor not to be substantiating. Therefore, the matter of impeachment of the Governor of Meru is now put to rest.
“We cannot purport to debate the report, the committee that came up with that report is a creature of this House, by extension it is the Senate that came up with that report,” Speaker Amason Kingi stated.
