The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has obtained court orders to freeze the assets of Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waitiu.
In a statement on Saturday, September 23, EACC noted that the ruling was made on Thursday, September 21 by the Anti-Corruption Court.
Further, EACC noted that the court determined that Waititu had a case to answer in the Ksh588 million tender scam.
“In its ruling delivered on Thursday, the Court determined that the Waititus have a case to answer in the Kes.588 million tender scam.
“EACC has since obtained orders from the High Court freezing the family’s unexplained wealth amounting to nearly Ksh2 billion, pending the ongoing civil suit seeking orders for forfeiture of the said assets to the State,” the statement read in part.

Court Goes after Waititu’s Wife and Daughter
According to EACC, an additional file was presented before the Anti-Corruption Court that implicated Waititu’s wife Susan Wangari Ndung’u and their daughter.
Further, EACC noted that the files recommended the prosecution of Waititu, his wife and daughter for the embezzlement of public funds in Kiambu County.
The pair is accused of abusing their positions by awarding tenders to companies in which they had a financial interest and then taking bribes from those companies.

Details of Waititu Graft Case
The former governor is accused of benefiting from tenders amounting to Ksh588 million alongside five other individuals.
Investigators from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detailed that the tender in question was awarded to a company where the former governor’s proxies sat.
Waititu and the other accused persons are also accused of laundering the proceeds of crime.
The former governor has maintained his innocence throughout the investigations.

Waititu Faints Missing Court Hearing
Earlier on Sunday, June 4, the former Kiambu governor was rushed to hospital after reportedly fainting and therefore failing to appear before the court for the hearing of the case.
When asked about Waititu’s wife, the politician’s lawyer John Swaka stated that the wife was taking care of him in hospital.
Additionally, Swaka indicated to the magistrate that Waititu’s wife Susan Wangari was with him in hospital and therefore could also not appear in court.
“We will be unable to continue the hearing today because of that. His wife is also with him in hospital,” Swaka stated at the time.
