Gor Mahia Football Club has unveiled a new Nissan X-Trail SUV for head coach Charles Akonnor, marking the latest investment by the club’s management.

In an announcement dated August 16, the club confirmed it has upgraded Akonnor’s previous saloon car to a more spacious and comfortable sport utility vehicle.

According to the club, the upgrade aims to ensure Charles Akonnor enjoys greater comfort while carrying out his duties.

“Upgrading from a saloon car to an SUV machine. The club management has secured a new ride for head coach Charles Akonnor; he can now roll in style and comfort as he leads the team,” the club said.

Photos released alongside the announcement showed Akonnor receiving the black Nissan X-Trail during a handover ceremony attended by club officials.

The vehicle was secured directly by Gor Mahia’s management and is intended for the head coach’s official and personal mobility needs as he oversees the club’s activities.

Akonnor, who previously managed the Ghana national team, is currently managing Gor Mahia on the continental stage.

Features of Charles Akonnor’s New Ride

Akonnor’s new black Nissan X-Trail SUV has a spacious interior, an elevated driving position, and practicality for both city and long-distance travel.

Notable features of the SUV include dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, multiple USB charging ports, and a configurable luggage compartment for additional cargo space, according to Cars Kenya.

For safety, the SUV is equipped with multiple airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), ISOFIX child-seat anchors, lane-assist technology, and other driver-assist features.

Gor Mahia Among Clubs With Team Bus

Gor Mahia’s current team owns a luxury 42-seater Isuzu FVR 90 coach, delivered in November 2023, valued between KSh 20 million and KSh 23 million.

The Eliud Owalo Foundation donated the team bus during Eliud Owalo’s tenure as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

It features several premium amenities, including VIP seating, USB charging ports, Wi-Fi connectivity, foldable television screens, piped music, and custom interior lighting.

The coach is branded in Gor Mahia’s traditional green colors and bears registration number KDN 068N, with the 68 serving as a tribute to the club’s founding year, 1968.

In April 2026, Shabana FC received a modern double-axle Isuzu bus worth KSh27 million from President William Ruto.

The bus, nicknamed ‘mnyama’, features a premium interior with VIP and VVIP seats, modern finishes, and a striking exterior wrapped in the club’s traditional red.

Unlike a standard bus designed to accommodate about 65 passengers, the vehicle is customized to accommodate approximately 45 passengers.

The bus also features a premium interior with VIP and VVIP seats.

National Super League side Kisumu All Stars also received a 33-seater bus, popularly known as Otenga, from George Ruto on behalf of President Ruto through the 82 Sports Foundation in July 2026.

Migori Youth FC has benefited from similar transport support from President Ruto after acquiring a 51-seater team bus.
