Gor Mahia are close to earning millions as they get ready for the final of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup in Kigali, Rwanda.
The 22-time Kenyan champions booked their place in the final after edging past Sudan’s Al Hilal in a dramatic semi-final decided by penalties on August 4, 2026.
The match ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time before Gor Mahia held their nerve to win the shootout 8-7 and secure a place in the tournament’s showpiece match.
K’Ogalo will now face Rwandan side Rayon Sports in Friday’s final at the Amahoro Stadium with regional glory and a substantial cash prize at stake.
The winners of the competition will walk away with US$30,000 (Ksh3.9M), while the runners-up are guaranteed US$20,000 (Ksh2.6M).
The third-placed team will receive US$10,000 (Ksh1.3M).
Road to the Final
Gor Mahia’s journey to the final has been impressive.
The Kenyan Premier League champions topped Group A with six points after beating APR FC of Rwanda and Djibouti’s Garde Républicaine.

Their only setback in the group stage was a 1-0 defeat to Uganda’s Vipers SC.
Gor Mahia finished level on points with Vipers but secured top spot on a superior goal difference of five.
After advancing to the knockout stage, Gor Mahia faced one of the tournament favorites, Al Hilal of Sudan, in the semi-finals.
The Kenyan side took the lead through an own goal before Al Hilal equalized through Ansumana Samura.
Neither team managed to find a winner in normal time or extra time.
Despite being reduced to 10 men after Jackson Dwang was sent off, Gor Mahia showed resilience and determination to force penalties.
They eventually emerged victorious 8-7 in a tense shootout and moved one step closer to a fourth CECAFA Kagame Cup title.
Coach Charles Akonnor praised his players after the victory, saying they had worked hard against a strong opponent and deserved their place in the final.
Gor Mahia’s Injury Concerns
However, Gor Mahia head into the final with injury concerns.
Winger Samuel Kapen has been ruled out with a cruciate ligament tear, while forward Patrick Essombe and club captain Sylvester Owino are also sidelined through injury.
K’Ogalo have been dealt a further blow by the suspension of defender Jackson Dwang, who was sent off in the semi-final victory over Al Hilal.
Despite the setbacks, Gor Mahia remain on course to end a 41-year wait for a fourth CECAFA Kagame Cup title, having previously won the regional competition in 1980, 1981 and 1985.

The win would see them join APR FC on four titles and move closer to record winners Simba SC and AFC Leopards, who have each lifted the trophy six times.
All About Gor Mahia’s Opponents
Rayon Sports will have home advantage when they face Gor Mahia in the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup final at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday.
The Rwandan side have won all but one of their matches and entered the final unbeaten.
Rayon Sports began their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Zanzibar’s KVZ FC before edging Kenyan side Tusker FC 1-0.
The Rwandan giants then held Sudan’s Al Hilal to a draw to finish top of Group C and secure a place in the semi-finals.
They followed that with a 3-1 win over South Sudan’s Jamus SC to book a date with Gor Mahia in the final.
One of Rayon Sports’ biggest strengths will be the home crowd.
The final will be played in Kigali, where the club is expected to enjoy massive backing from local supporters.
