Kisii Governor Simba Arati on Tuesday, April 11 ordered the dismissal of two senior morgue attendants at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital over gross conduct, incompetence and sabotage.
Governor Arati made the order just two days after several bereaved families visiting the morgue to pick up their deceased loved ones complained about the bad state of the bodies.
According to the Kisii governor, foul play and sabotage were the motivating factors for the morgue attendants to play dirty games meant to allegedly discredit his administration.
Moreover, Arati spoke of receiving further intelligence on other saboteur activities in the offing from medical staff at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
“I have heard some people wanted to switch off the oxygen plant at night and kill over 50 babies in the nursery,” Arati said while addressing journalists.
Likewise, the two senior attendants were ordered to publicly walk out of the facility.

The Kisii governor accused them of intentionally switching off the coolers in a scheme to paint his government in bad light.
“The worst part of it is bodies brought by the police are dumped by the same staff with no embalming done. This is the height of dirty schemes by people not ready to work,” Governor Arati said.
Nonetheless, Simba Arati has promised to allocate Sh2m for the refurbishment of the old mortuary which will now be reopened to preserve unclaimed bodies and those brought in by the police.
He further announced that the chapel will be converted to a holding area for more bodies to address the issue of congestion at the main morgue.
Arati said he was shocked that the fired morgue staff were piling up bodies against the recommended 78.
