Goons infiltrate Anti Govt Protests
The anti-Finance Bill protests which initially started as peaceful have been marred by goons who have destroyed property and looted businesses leading to huge losses especially for businessmen.
During the Thursday, June 25 protests, several shops in Nairobi CBD including Quickmart Supermarket were looted while other shops were set on fire.
On Tuesday, July 2, several roads were closed after unruly youth blocked them with stones while many others were arrested by police for theft and violence.
At the same time, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has published photos of individuals wanted for their involvement in unlawful activities during the protests.
In a notice on Wednesday, the DCI urged the suspects to surrender to the nearest police station for further police action.
“The police are seeking public assistance to locate these individuals. In total, the published images are 38 with the police asking them to surrender to the nearest police station for further action.
“The images have been captured from CCTV footages in various buildings where the suspects are believed to have participated in unlawful activities including Parliament Buildings,” the DCi stated.

Sonko Clarifies Reports of Being Named Among Politicians
Amid the speculations over which political figures could have planned the infiltration by goons, former Nairobi Governor Miko Sonko has distanced himself from reports that he was involved in hiring goons to interrupt the peaceful protests.
According to him, the perpetrators were able to escape arrest because many areas in Nairobi CBD were not under CCTV surveillance.
“I have seen that there are people who like tarnishing my name by spreading cheap propaganda and lies with their fake intelligence that I was the one who organized for the goons to loot in CBD, and coffins to be brought.
“Here is the correct intelligence, the coffins were purchased within the city. They were ferried to the CBD in a blue canter. Some known activists, one of them, my biggest enemy, was even captured live on camera carrying the said coffins,” he said.
