The Ministry of Health, through the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), has ordered all private health facilities in Kenya to update their ownership, registration, and licensing records or risk being closed.
In a statement dated February 10, by the KMPDC Chief Executive Officer, Dr David G. Kariuki, the body announced a mandatory verification and update of ownership and registration records for all health facilities in the country.
“All health facilities are expected to cooperate fully with the Council in this exercise,” the notice clearly stated in part.
According to the issued statement, the directive applies to private, faith-based, community-based, and non-governmental organisation (NGO) medical and dental facilities.
“The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council in the exercise of its statutory mandate to regulate, license and maintain an accurate national register of all medical and dental facilities, hereby issues this Notice to all private, faith-based, community-based and non-governmental organisation (NGO) health facilities,” KMPDC stated.
KMPDC Compliance and Regulatory Action
The body informed all the affected facilities to submit certified true copies of their ownership, governance, and licensing documents to the Council for verification and updating of its records.
The documents must be submitted via email to [email protected] on or before March 3, 2026, as KMPDC instructed that the subject line of the email should clearly state the facility name and registration number.

“Please ensure that your email subject line clearly states the facility name and registration number,” the statement noted.
The Council warned that any facility that fails, neglects, or refuses to comply with this directive within the stipulated period will be deemed to be in breach of its licensing and regulatory obligations.
“The Council shall take appropriate regulatory and enforcement action without further reference,” the notice stated.
Facilities are urged to ensure timely compliance to avoid penalties or other regulatory consequences.
Requirements for Submission
KMPDC confirmed that facilities must submit the following documents as part of the verification process:
- Certificate of Incorporation, Certificate of Registration of Business Name, or Trust Deed (as applicable)
- CR12 or Official Search showing the current directors, trustees, or proprietors
- Valid Facility Registration Certificate issued by KMPDC
- Copies of National Identity Cards for all directors, trustees, or proprietors
- KRA PIN Certificates for all directors, trustees, or proprietors
- One (1) recent passport-size photograph of each director, trustee, or proprietor
“Submission of these documents is mandatory to ensure the accuracy of the Council’s national register,” the notice emphasized.
Facilities are reminded that failure to submit any of the required documents will be considered non-compliance.
