The Ministry of Education has addressed concerns raised by parents and learners about whether students can transfer to different senior schools if they are dissatisfied with the KJSEA results.
Speaking at a public event on Saturday, December 13, 2025, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Professor Julius Bitok, stated that students will be allowed to change schools and pathways if they are unhappy with their initial placement.
“And we shall give them an opportunity to revise. If you are given a school and you don’t like it, you will revise digitally,” Bitok said.
PS Bitok Assures Learners They Can Change Senior Schools After KJSEA Results
The PS added that students transitioning to Grade 10 who wish to change their pathway can do so within the next week. By December 20th, parents will know the senior secondary schools where their children have been placed, with assurances that the transition will be transparent.
“We have a team already working very hard in Mombasa to ensure proper placement. Starting Monday, the day after tomorrow, some students will know their placements, and all students will know where they have been placed by December 20. We aim to ensure a fair placement process. No parent should worry at all,” the PS assured.

Additionally, the Basic Education PS addressed confusion about the grading system, which has caused concern among some parents. He stated that parents should not panic but instead seek clarification from schools if they are confused.
“I have heard some parents complain, asking why their child is getting an EE. The EE we are talking about here isn’t like the E in KCPE. These are totally different. EE here means Exceeding Expectations. Actually, it is the best grade. Remember, Competency-Based Education is not about examinations; it is about assessment. It focuses on the child’s skills—what the child can do best,” the PS said.
Types of Senior School Pathways
Professor Bitok’s clarifications came days after the KJSEA results were released on Thursday, December 11, 2025, with 1.13 million Grade 9 learners expected to transition to senior schools and advance to Grade 10.
According to the Ministry of Education, placement for KJSEA candidates will be determined by performance, pathway choices, and school preferences.
