A nine-year-old boy from Nyamira County is nursing serious injuries after allegedly being caned by his teacher.
The grade four pupil from Riang’ombe Primary School in Borabu, was flogged on the buttocks 107 times by his teacher who has since been identified as Jackson Marucha.
The teacher flogged the 9-year-old after reporting that his school uniforms had been stolen from a clothesline.
According to reports, Marucha tried to conceal the callous act by locking the boy away in a dorm and denying him medical attention after realizing how severe his injuries were.
The pupil could not even sit down after the flogging as some flesh was missing from his buttocks.
Nonetheless, the boy’s classmates informed his uncle, who had gone to visit him in school and was barred from seeing him by the school administration, of his corporal punishment incident.
The boy is currently recuperating at Nyamira Referral Hospital. He told the medical attendants at the facility that Marucha ruthlessly beat him despite his pleas for mercy.

Nonetheless, Kenyans on Twitter, led by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has asked for the immediate arrest of the teacher after the story went viral on social media.
DCI detectives, police from a nearby precinct and Ministry of Education officials have taken in the school’s head teacher Isabella Kumenda and four of her subordinates for questioning.
However, the head teacher claimed she was not in the school when the incident occurred.
The five teachers are held at Manga Police Station while Jackson Marucha, the perpetrator of the brutal flogging, is still missing.
