Former President of the Law Society of Kenya Nelson Havi has invited evicted Athi River residents to reach out to him for legal action over demolitions.
In a statement on Monday, October 16, the advocate stated that he would take legal action on behalf of all the individuals who will reach him.
Further, Havi asked the residents to send him documents indicating ownership of the property, and a valuation report of the land.
“I will act for all the homeowners evicted from the property of East African Portland. Compile the documents pursuant to which you bought the property.
“Get a valuation report of the land and developments and get in touch with me for further action,” stated Havi.

Ahmed Nasir Abdullahi Backs Havi on How to Recover Money Spent
At the same time, Nairobi Lawyer Ahmed Nasir Abdullahi backed Havi’s decision noting that all the victims could get back the money they spent on their houses.
“All those who lost their investment in the Portland Cement saga can recover every penny they spent. Come together as a group so that you can file a class action.
“Compute all you spent on buying the land and building. Identify the MP and politicians who sold you the land. Get the lawyer who did the transaction as he is an accomplice. Get a very good and honest lawyer,” stated the lawyer.

Ruto Revokes Athi River Title Deeds
The decision came as residents of Athi River who established their property at the Portland cement land in Mavoko continued to count losses as demolitions continued.
Additionally, security officers were sent to the area to ensure the activity occurred as planned and directed by President William Ruto.
Earlier on October 13, Ruto ordered the Ministry of Land to revoke title deeds of all land in Athi River that have remained undeveloped over the past 10 years.
Moreover, the president stated that the pieces of land would be used for manufacturing of various materials for exportation.
“We have now been cleared by the courts on the lands that was adjacent to EPZ, the land that belonged to Portland cement.
“My instructions are we will take either 1000 or 1,500 acres of that land and make it part of EPZ here in Athi river,” Ruto stated.
