Villagers burned down the house of a woman suspected of practicing witchcraft. The incident happened in Kaborus village, Kericho County where the woman’s family spent a night in the cold after residents burnt down their home over claims of engaging in acts of witchcraft.
The villagers alleged that the woman was found performing witchcraft-like acts at the girls’ toilets of a neighboring school in January 2025.

They claimed that the woman was possessed a collection of objects and things suspected to have been used in witchcraft acts.
According to reports, she was found by students who had gone to the toilets.

The girls raised alarms attracting the attention of the teachers and other learners in the institution.
The woman tried to run to safety, but the angry crowd chased her down.

They attacked her before police officers from Ainamoi Police Station rescued her.
She was rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital and discharged after recovery.

However, the villagers warned her never to return to the village.
On the night of Wednesday, February 5, the villagers surrounded her home and burnt it down.
Her family members at home during the incident were forced to flee for safety.
Everything in the house was destroyed by fire, but no one was injured.

4 Men Jailed for Lynching Women
This follows the sentencing of four men to a total of 135 years in prison for lynching four women accused of witchcraft in Banda Sub-location, Marani Sub-County, Kisii County, four years ago.
Amos Nyakundi Ondiek, Chrispine Makwaro Ogeto, Hesbon Ogondi Gichana, and Evans Ogeto Okari were found guilty of the crime committed on October 17, 2021.
They were part of a mob that killed elderly women—Jemima Miranga, 60, Agnes Ototo, 57, Sigara Onkware, 62, and Sindege Mayaka—on allegations of practicing witchcraft.
Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, January 22, Kisii High Court Judge Waweru Kiarie sentenced Ondiek, Okari, and Gichana to 40 years in prison each.
However, Makwaro, Ondiek’s son, received a 15-year sentence after the court determined he was a minor at the time of the crime.
“I sentence the second accused to serve 15 years’ imprisonment for each crime he committed. The sentences will run concurrently,” the judge ruled.
