The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested a man named Shadrack Kariira Ndegwa accused of impersonating National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers and EACC on Wednesday, November 1, along Thika Road.
According to EACC, Ndegwa claimed he had the ability to end all types of corruption investigations against any person at any time.
Additionally, he purported to have capacity to change topics under investigation in favor of the individuals under investigation.
Also, he has been contacting his victims pretending to be investigating “very sensitive matters” and claimed to have had information that incriminates them.
Subsequently, the suspect would then demand money to the tunes of millions from the victims to “assist” them out of trouble.

“This week, the Commission arrested one Shadrack Kariira Ndegwa, a fraudster, and imposter who has been posing as a powerful senior detective at NIS and EACC, with a purported ability to terminate all manner of corruption investigations against any person, at any stage or sway matters under investigation in favour of the individuals under probe,” the statement read in part.

According to the EACC statement, the fraudster duped his victims, mostly high-ranking officials, into believing that he has top-notch connections with heads of key security and law enforcement agencies in the country.
He made them believe that he could “cause many things to happen” by a single phone call, as per the EACC.
“He tells his victims that the amount needs to be sufficient to pay for his services and also facilitate his “talk with wakubwa,” EACC reported.
In the statement, the anti-graft body called upon any person who could have been defrauded to report to its offices. The watchdog body further promised to deal with the suspect in accordance with the law.
“Any person defrauded by this individual or any other is requested to report the matter to EACC.”
Other NIS Impersonators
Notably, the impersonating cases have been on the rise. In September, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified two individuals who posied as National Intelligence Service officials.
The two suspects, Samuel Morara Nyambane and Joseph Murimi Njue were apprehended after appearing at DCI headquarters for grilling.

“They presented themselves at the DCI Headquarters as officers of the Directorate of Military Intelligence and National Intelligence Service respectively, seeking assistance in the apprehension of a suspect,” DCI reported.
According to the DCI, the two said they were frustrated by an officer investigating the case and hence required assistance in resolving the matter.
“The two cited frustrations from the Investigating officer in a case of obtaining money by false pretense that was allegedly recorded at Central Police Station, Nairobi,” DCI noted.
