Philanthropist Bill Gates has expressed gratitude for Melinda French Gates’ contributions to their co-founded Foundation after she announced her resignation from her role as co-chair.
Gates thanked Melinda for her instrumental role in shaping the foundation’s strategies, particularly in global health and gender equality initiatives.
“I want to thank Melinda for her critical contributions to the Gates Foundation from its very beginning. As a co-founder and co-chair, Melinda has been instrumental in shaping our strategies and initiatives, impacting global health and gender equality,” stated Bill Gates.
He added, “I am sorry to see Melinda leave, but I am sure she will have a huge impact in her future philanthropic work.”
Melinda Gates, in her statement, emphasized the thoughtful consideration behind her decision to step down, expressing pride in the foundation’s accomplishments.
She announced plans to commit an additional $12.5 billion to her philanthropic efforts focused on advancing gender equality.

“After careful thought and reflection, I have decided to resign from my role as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. My last day of work at the foundation will be June 7th.” stated Melinda.
Expressing his commitment to the foundation’s continued work, Bill Gates stressed, “Looking ahead, I remain fully committed to the Foundation’s work across all our strategies, and to realizing the opportunities we have to continue improving the lives of millions around the world.”
Melinda Gates expressed pride in the foundation’s achievements and her decision to step down with careful consideration.
She stated, “This is not a decision I came to lightly. I am immensely proud of the foundation that Bill and I built together and of the extraordinary work it is doing to address inequities around the world.”
Addressing the future of her philanthropic endeavors, Melinda Gates announced plans to allocate a substantial portion of her resources to initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality.
She revealed, “Under the terms of my agreement with Bill, in leaving the foundation, I will have an additional $12.5 billion to commit to my work on behalf of women and families.”
