Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has emerged as the most preferred presidential aspirant in Central Kenya.
According to the latest Infotrak poll on July 13, the poll places Matiang’i at the top of the preferred presidential candidate in the region with 19 percent support, ahead of all other potential presidential contenders in the 2027 elections.
Further, the survey results indicate that Kalonzo Musyoka follows with 13 percent support, while President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are tied at 12 percent each.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna trails Ruto and Gachagua as the presidential candidate with support from Central Kenya at 11 percent.
Matiang’i’s performance is particularly notable, given that his national rating is 12 percent, indicating that his support in Central Kenya is significantly higher than his overall national standing.
The former Interior CS also records strong performances in other key areas, including 17 percent in Nyanza and 16 percent in Nairobi.
According to the survey, Central Kenya has the highest number of undecided voters in the country at 26 percent.
Demographic data from the same survey also points to growing support for Matiang’i among key voter groups.
He records his strongest age-based performance among voters aged 36 to 45 years, attracting 14 percent support, higher than his national average.
Among male voters, he garners 13 percent support, compared with 10 percent among female respondents.
While President Ruto remains the national frontrunner with 32 percent support, the Central Kenya results indicate that Matiang’i currently holds the highest support in Central Kenya.

Matiang’i Emerges as a Key Opposition Force, Infotrak Poll Shows.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i are emerging as the leading contenders for the opposition’s presidential ticket, according to the latest Infotrak survey.
The poll shows Matiang’i commanding 26 percent support among preferred opposition presidential candidates, just one percentage point behind Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who leads with 27 percent.
Regionally, Kalonzo’s biggest strength lies in Eastern Kenya, where he commands 48 percent of the vote.
On the other hand, Matiang’i leads in Nairobi with 30 percent, is strongest in Nyanza and Central Kenya at 29 percent each, and records 27 percent in Rift Valley.
Additionally, the former cabinet secretary has also posted 25 percent support as an opposition leader in the Coast region, matching Edwin Sifuna.
Matiang’i’s 26 percent support as the preferred opposition leader places him ahead of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who garnered 19 percent, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who received 9 percent.

Top Opposition Leaders Ticket Combinations
According to the survey, a ticket comprising Fred Matiang’i as the presidential candidate and Kalonzo Musyoka as the running mate was supported by 15 percent nationally, making it the third-most-preferred opposition ticket.
Meanwhile, a Kalonzo Musyoka-Fred Matiang’i combination ranks second nationally with 16 percent of the vote.
Regionally, the Matiang’i-Kalonzo ticket records its strongest performance in Nairobi and Nyanza, where it attracts 19 percent of the vote in each region.
The combination also posts strong numbers in Central Kenya at 17 percent according to the Infotrak poll.
In addition, the opposition partnership recorded a 23 percent backing in North Eastern Kenya and 22 percent in Eastern Kenya.
Based on the Infotrak poll, age-based analysis further reveals that the Matiang’i-Kalonzo partnership resonates most strongly with voters aged 36 to 45, attracting 19 percent of the vote.
Other proposed opposition alliances lag considerably behind the top three options. A Kalonzo Musyoka-Rigathi Gachagua ticket receives 5 percent support.
At the same time, Rigathi Gachagua-Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua-Fred Matiang’i, Fred Matiang’i-Rigathi Gachagua, and Fred Matiang’i-Martha Karua each secure between 3 and 4 percent.
