China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), a Chinese infrastructure firm specializing in transport and urban development projects, is set to undertake the construction of the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba SGR line.
It was formed in 2005 through the merger of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). To date, the China Communications Construction Company has operations spanning more than 150 countries.
The company officially began operations on October 8, 2006, under China Communications Construction Group (CCCG) as its parent company.
As a publicly traded, state-owned enterprise, China Communications Construction Company is primarily owned by the Government of China, which holds approximately 63.8% of the company.

In 2017, the company completed construction of the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR phase 1, which cost US$3.8 billion.
Later, China Communications Construction Company extended the line to Naivasha in 2019 (Phase 2A).
In March 2025, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) also took a significant step in expanding the Port of Mombasa by signing a contract with the Chinese company to construct Berth 19 B.
The company is set to construct the Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba SGR Extension (Phase 2B and 2C) after the launch by President William Ruto.
Ruto Launches Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba SGR
On Thursday, March 19, President William Ruto officially launched the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project.
The 475 km railway network is expected to extend from Naivasha through Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Nyamira, Kisumu, and the Malaba border.
The project, implemented by Kenya Railways in collaboration with the National Land Commission, comprises two sections: the Naivasha–Kisumu section and the Kisumu–Malaba section.

The government plans to spend over Ksh500 billion on the project, with more money allocated to the longer Naivasha-to-Kisumu leg at 264 kilometres.
The Naivasha–Kisumu section will stretch approximately 264 kilometres from Emurtoto in Narok County to Kisumu, with an additional 8.69-kilometre branch line to the proposed new Kisumu Port.
Along the route, the line passes through Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Nyamira, and Kisumu counties.
The railway line will have six intermediate stations at Narok, Mulot, Bomet, Sotik, Sondu, and Ahero.
It will pass through 17 crossing sections across Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Kericho, and Kisumu counties.
