The tragic accident involving Chavakali Boys High School students along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway left musician KarehB devastated after she lost her 17-year-old son.
According to reports, the incident, which occurred on Monday, April 1, at night, claimed the life of one student and left 33 others injured.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene where the bus driver lost control at the Mamboleo roundabout in Kisumu before the ill-fated Easy Coach that was ferrying students to Nairobi overturned.
KarehB took to Facebook to express her grief and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the accident and her son’s death.
KarehB emotional plea
In the emotional post on April 5, she demanded answers from the Ministry of Education, questioning why minors were allowed to travel at night and condemning the government’s silence on the matter.

She also expressed deep concern over the perceived lack of oversight that allowed minors to travel at night, directing questions to Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the government at large.
“Transport and Roads Minister; was the whole traffic Marshall asleep that no one noticed minors travelling at night?”
Message to Chavakali High School
Furthermore, KarehB lamented the lack of communication from Chavakali Boys regarding her son’s death, highlighting the distressing situation where she had to learn about the tragedy through unconventional means.
“I have been a parent at Chavakali Boys for the past 4 years and no one has called to inform me on my son’s death or better still condole with me, you even had to bribe someone with 30k!!!
“Is my son worth 30k?? Chavakali Boys; when are you planning to communicate?” she further added.
In her plea for justice and accountability, KarehB further questioned the silence of the government in the face of such tragedies.
“Government: what is your take on this Issue…are you going to continue being silent and lose more children on the roads.”
“What measures are you putting in place to curb the accidents doing the rounds especially the young generation, do we need to resurrect Michuki,” she wrote.
The post, which has since gone viral resonated with raw emotions and underscored the pain and frustration of a mother grappling with the sudden loss of her son.

Government initiatives to curb road accidents
The incident sparked concerns about road safety and the increasing number of fatalities in the country.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki highlighted the alarming trend of road accidents and the need for measures to address the rising cases of road fatalities.
With over 1,000 lives lost to road accidents since the beginning of the year, the country is facing a crisis that Kindiki likened to a severe epidemic, surpassing the death toll of certain diseases.

“We had Covid 19, a terrible epidemic in two years, and the people who died out of the pandemic were over 4,000.
“Yet in one year alone 4,324 people died from road accidents, this means that this problem is worse than the pandemics,” said Kindiki.
