Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwour famously known as Jalang’o has called on event planners planning to host events in Lang’ata to ensure the youth in his constituency get 50 percent of the work.
Jalang’o warned that anyone who will not adhere to his directive will not be permitted to host the event there.
“New guideline. If you are hosting an event in Lang’ata venues and you don’t give our young people a chance to work at your event, that event will not happen!” he said in a statement on Monday, July 4.
“Carnivore, Uhuru Gardens, Nyayo stadium, and any other venue in Langata! 50 percent of jobs must be from Langa’ta youths or hold it in your home area. Don’t say we didn’t warn you,” he added.

Nonetheless, the MP’s warning is illegal as it is not against the law for anyone to conduct an event of any kind at a public location as long as it’s legal.
Only Cap. 56 of the Public Order Act on Regulation of Public Meetings and Processions gives the regulating officer or any police officer with the level of inspector or higher the authority to stop a public gathering or a public procession.
A regulating officer may stop a public gathering if there is an obvious, present, or imminent threat of a breach of the peace or public order.
