The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced 91 job vacancies as part of its efforts to rejuvenate its workforce in the judicial system.
In an advertisement, the JSC extended invitations to eligible Kenyans to apply for the job opportunities.
The positions on offer encompass a diverse array of roles critical to the effective functioning of the judicial apparatus.
Notable among these openings are opportunities for the Chairperson and Members of the Legal Education Appeals Tribunal, Law Clerks, and Legal Researchers.
The Legal Researchers position, presents the largest number of vacancies, totaling 80 positions.
Meanwhile, the Law Clerk vacancy offers six positions for qualified candidates.
The JSC seeks individuals committed to upholding the principles of justice, integrity, and professionalism.
These appointments are instrumental in maintaining the high standards of legal practice and judicial administration essential for the smooth functioning of the Kenyan legal system.

The commission emphasized that all applications must be submitted no later than 17th April 2024 at 5.00 P.M. to be considered.

JSC Requirements and Competencies
For the position of Law Clerk, specific qualifications and requirements have been outlined.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university, along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Law. Additionally, applicants must be practicing advocates of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate and membership to the Law Society of Kenya.
Experience criteria include a minimum of six years’ standing as an advocate or extensive legal research in a relevant field.
Proficiency in computer applications and adherence to Chapter Six of the Constitution are also prerequisites.
Key competencies sought include strong communication skills, analytical abilities, and sound judgment.
Similarly, for the role of Legal Researcher, applicants must possess an LLB degree, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law, and be practicing advocates of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate and membership to the Law Society of Kenya.
Three years’ standing as an advocate is required, along with proficiency in computer applications.
Competencies such as research skills, attention to detail, and independent judgment are highly valued.

Duties and responsibilities associated with these positions include analyzing legal pleadings, examining court decisions, conducting thorough legal research, and preparing well-researched opinions for judges and judicial officers.
Additionally, Legal Researchers are tasked with drafting bench memoranda and summarizing pre-trial and post-trial media reports.
The Legal Education Appeals Tribunal, established under the Basic Education Act No. 14 of 2013, plays a crucial role in hearing and determining appeals arising from decisions of the County Education Board.
Its membership comprises distinguished individuals from various sectors, reflecting a broad spectrum of expertise and experience.
