Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has extended the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) selection activity by 10 days.
The extension is meant to give Grade 6 learners ample time to select their preferred schools ahead of the January 2023 placement.
Moreover, while speaking during a classroom inspection exercise in Kiambu on Saturday, August 27, Magoha stated that the registration deadline has been pushed to September 10 as opposed to the earlier date August 30.
According to the Education CS the extension of the Junior Secondary Schools selection is due to the delays caused by the just-concluded General Election.
He also attributed the extension to the upcoming polls in Kakamega, Mombasa counties and other constituencies scheduled for Monday, August 29.
“We have done extremely well in terms of registering our children in Grade 6 with regards to selection and we have also interfered with some dates, we have also had hiccups and we will have more on Monday in some areas, therefore as a government we have decided to make the final extension for the Junior Secondary Schools selection process,” said Magoha.
“I think it is better we give them another ten days so that by the 10th of September if your child has not selected the school now it becomes their own problem.” The CS added.
Nonetheless, grade 6 students are expected to join grade Seven in January after sitting for their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) in November 2022.
In addition, the students are expected to select their preferred junior schools through an online KNEC portal managed by their schools.
