The Kenya Airport Authorities (KAA) has announced its Managing Director post vacant, a year after Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen terminated the contract of CEO Alex Gitari.
In an advert on Tuesday, June 11, KAA published the career opportunities with the qualifications and the process of how to apply.
“Guided by its mandate, the Authority is seeking to recruit competent and self-driven persons to fill the under listed positions,” read the advert in part.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) oversees the daily operations and strategic direction of the Authority. Their tasks include managing finances, engaging stakeholders, ensuring compliance, enhancing performance, and fostering talent development.
Key responsibilities include leading the Authority strategically, engaging with stakeholders, presenting plans to the Board, ensuring financial transparency, maximizing asset productivity, maintaining legal compliance, enhancing service quality, and fostering a high-performance culture.
Candidate Specifications
To qualify, candidates should have a relevant bachelor’s and master’s degree, aviation certification (preferred), at least 15 years of experience (10 in senior management), and leadership training.
In addition to experience and academic qualifications, candidates will also be required to prove possession of strong management skills, strategic thinking, decision-making, communication, and leadership skills.

Further, candidates must meet Chapter Six of the Kenyan Constitution requirements and provide necessary clearances. The position offers a three-year renewable contract with performance review.
Applicants meeting the criteria should submit required documents by June 24, 2024.
Further, KAA announced vacancies in other positions other positions including Airport Manager at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Airport Manager, Wilson Airport (WAP), Airport Manager, Wajir Airport, Officer In-charge, Ukunda Airstrip, Officer In-charge, Migori Airstrip, Officer In-charge, Lodwar, Officer In-charge, Kakamega Airstrip.
Murkomen Fires KAA MD
The vacancy announcement came after the update announced on Saturday August 26, 2023, when Henry Ogoye was appointed as the Acting Managing Director at Kenya Airports Authority.
Murkomen stated, “By mutual agreement, Mr. Alex Gitari ‘s contract as the Managing Director of Kenya Airports Authority has been ended.”

The Cabinet Secretary (CS) shared this news after a meeting with Kenya Airports Authority officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
This meeting was convened following a power outage that happened across the country on Friday.
The blackout also affected JKIA, leaving passengers stranded in the dark for about two hours.
