In her interview with Muraya, Wanjiru revealed that she had been battling throat cancer since 2020.
Her problems, she says, started after an unlikely accident when a bone bruised the upper part of her mouth.

“I thought it was a problem of how I slept the previous night and even shared it with a colleague,” she said.
She then decided to visit a specialist at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where she was treated for migraines.

However, she recalled experiencing a strange condition where a fluid started coming out of her nose. At first, she mistook the fluid for the normal mucus and delayed in taking action.
She would later realize that it was more than just mucus and thereby decided to visit Mbagathi Hospital.
All this time, she started experiencing financial constraints due to the expenses.
After an examination at Mbagathi, Teresia Njeri was referred to the Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized attention.
Cancer Diagnosis
As such, while at KNH, specialists recommended a biopsy test for Njeri which she underwent. The results revealed that she had a rare type of cancer called adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC).
What followed was a raft of recommendation from the hospital’s specialists who wanted to perform operations inside her mouth to stop the cancer.
The cancer has since affected her face and internal parts to an extent that a tumor blocked one side of her nose.
In addition, her jaws and eye sockets were replaced with artificial ones making it impossible for her to chew the lightest foods.
On Tuesday, Wanjiru said that she was in need of Ksh2 million to seek advanced treatment with strict timelines as she indicated that the amount was required before the 19th of December.
Further, due to her frequent medical expenses, Wanjiru and her family have experienced financial constraints leaving her with an option of designing crochets to raise money.
