Families of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officers are set to benefit from a technical and vocational skills training program after a partnership between the Family Group Foundation and the Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK).
According to a statement by the Family Group Foundation, the partnership aims to make technical and vocational skills training a permanent part of support within the Kenya Defense Forces, and it targets dependents of service personnel aged 18 to 25.
So far, the programme has supported 290 young people, helping them gain skills that can lead to jobs or self-employment.
Fourth Cohort of KDF Dependents Graduates in Nairobi
The partnership was announced during the graduation ceremony of the fourth group of trainees held at Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi, which included 89 dependents of Kenya Army servicemen and women.
Speaking at the event, Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri praised the programme for helping young people prepare for the job market by giving them useful and practical skills.
“I would like to appreciate the strong partnership of the Military Wives Association of Kenya and The Family Group Foundation.
This is indeed a truly great creation that has equipped these young men and women with not only technical skills but has also instilled in them confidence,” he said.

Programme Trains 290 Youth from Army, Air Force, and Navy Families
The training programme has now successfully graduated four groups from across the KDF. The first group included 51 dependents from the Kenya Army, followed by 50 dependents from the Kenya Air Force.
The third group included 100 dependents from the Kenya Navy before the latest group of Army dependents completed their training.
Since completing the programme, beneficiaries have moved into the job market. Some have joined the KDF as skilled tradesmen, while others have found employment or started their own businesses.
The formal partnership with MWAK shows a focus on creating positive social impact by supporting communities and opening opportunities for young people through skills training, education, and mentorship.
“At Family Bank, we believe in promoting positive social impact. This partnership represents our commitment to strengthening communities and creating opportunities for our young people,” said Nancy Njau.
