The Kenya Defence Forces and the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) officially opened a five-day capacity-building training program on August 4 at the Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi, aiming to curb terrorism financing across its member states.
The program convenes security officials, financial intelligence units, law enforcers, and regulatory experts from IMCTC countries to boost operational readiness and improve cross-border cooperation in tracking and dismantling financial networks that fund terrorism.
John Nkoimo, General Officer Commanding Central Command (CENTCOM), explained in his opening address the complexity of terrorism financing, which exploits vulnerabilities in traditional banking, mobile money platforms, and the dark web.
He empasized the necessity of a coordinated whole-of-government approach that integrates legal expertise, technology, and international cooperation to strengthen national resilience.
KDF Training
The training builds on an inaugural session held in April 2025, which trained 22 Kenyan professionals from the security and financial sectors.

This latest program seeks to enhance institutional capacity to detect and disrupt illicit financial flows that support terrorist activities.
Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al Moghedi, Secretary General of IMCTC, explained the importance of coordinated cross-border collaboration.
He called for stronger legal frameworks, improved institutional capacity, and better use of financial intelligence systems among member states.
Running through August 8, the Nairobi program features workshops, expert panels, and simulation exercises designed to improve detection, reporting, and inter-agency cooperation in the fight against terrorism financing.
Justified Accord 24 (JA24)
In February 2024, KDF officers commenced a special training exercise named the Justified Accord 24 (JA24) at the Counter Insurgency, Terrorism, and Stability Operations Center (CITSO) in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.

Organized by the Kenya Defense Forces, this military exercise brought together participants from various nations to enhance their readiness, foster cooperation, and prepare regional partners for regional and international missions.
It was led by the U.S. Army with over 800 personnel taking part in this multinational exercise.
Djibouti, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, and the United States were among the participants in the multinational field training.
In the two weeks training, U.S Army Field Artillery member, General Wasmund noted that security threats in the United States kept mutating and, as such, recommended continuous training and integration for the protection and defense of the people.
“A problem for one is a problem for all in the region and so the reason to come in unison, train together to defeat a common enemy and future crisis.”
