The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a traffic disruption along a busy highway. In a public notice, the authority said that a section of the Thika-Garissa Road will experience a traffic disruption for 106 days.
The Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge near the Mbakini Centre section of the Thika-Garissa (A3) Road will experience traffic disruption from Saturday, July 26 to Saturday, November 8, 2025.
According to the authority, this is to allow for maintenance and rehabilitation works on the bridge girders and the deck.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” read part of the notice.
An autonomous road agency, KeNHA’s responsibility includes the management, development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of Class A, B, and C roads.
This is notably the first notice on traffic disruption that has been issued by the agency’s Acting Director General Engineer Luka Kimeli, who took over the helm of the agency earlier this month.
Engineer Kimeli took over following the resignation of former Director General Engineer Kung’u Ndung’u.

Engineer Ndung’u had served as the KeNHA DG since his appointment in 2021 by former Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia.
He took over from Peter Mundinia, who left the agency following the expiry of his six-year contract on August 28, 2021.
Before he was appointed as DG, Ndung’u was the Director, Road Asset and Corridor Management in the agency.
In a statement on Friday, July 11, KeNHA Board of Directors Chairperson Winfrida Ngumi revealed that the board had accepted Kungu’s resignation.
In turn, the authority appointed Engineer Kimeli as the Acting Director General effective July 11, 2025.
KeNHA announces Mombasa Road traffic disruption
Prior to his exit, Engineer Ndung’u had issued a notice on the temporary traffic disruption on Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station.
The busy road experienced traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound carriageway from Saturday, July midnight to Sunday, July 13, 2025, at midnight.

On July 9, KeNHA also issued a notice on possible traffic disruption along the Nairobi – Nakuru – Mau Summit (A8) Road and the Nairobi – Maai Mahiu – Naivasha (A8 South) Road from Thursday, July 10, to Sunday, July 20, 2025.
This was to facilitate scheduled interview surveys and data collection. During the data survey, some motorists were stopped to share their journey details.
The survey data collected comprised axle load surveys, origin-destination surveys, camera-based cross-sectional surveys, and turning movement counts.
