The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has warned that motorists using the Nairobi Southern Bypass should brace for temporary traffic disruptions this coming weekend.
In a public notice dated June 1, 2025, KeNHA announced that in will begin crucial infrastructure monitoring project along the road.
Consequently, a section of the bypass near the entrance to the CRBC Camp, opposite the Nairobi National Park, will be partially closed.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass near the entrance of the CRBC Camp, opposite the Nairobi National Park, will experience a temporary traffic disruption,” the statement read in part.

KeNHA Explains Reason for the Closure
Further, the authority explained that the move will allow for the installation of stress-strain sensors on the highway pavement.
The disruption is part of an initiative to enhance road safety and longevity by testing the mechanical response of the pavement.
Also, the authority will be recording traffic volumes and axle load data, and predicting the pavement’s service life.
Therefore, the outer single lane of the road, approximately 10 meters long, will be closed from 10:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, to 6:00 AM on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
“The disruption follows the installation of stress-strain sensors on the highway pavement. An initiative that aims to test the mechanical response of the pavement, record traffic volumes and axle load data as well as prediction of pavement’s service life,” explained KeNHA.
KeNHA has advised motorists to approach the section with caution and to comply with traffic marshals and police officers who will be present on-site to guide traffic.
The Authority assured the public that the works are temporary and necessary for better road management and long-term safety.

Earlier Traffic Disruptions
Earlier, motorists in Nairobi and nine other counties were cautioned about expected traffic disruptions along various roads over the weekend.
In a traffic advisory issued on Friday, May 30, the Mater Hospital warned motorists ahead of the Mater Heart Run 2025.
The run, which took place on Saturday, started at 7 am and ended at 11 am.
In Nairobi, the event kicked off at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). Mater Hospital had notified the public that normal traffic flow would be partially interrupted on seven roads to ensure the safety of participants.
The affected roads included City Hall Way, Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue, Ragati Road (Upperhill), Elgon Road, Bunyala Road, and Parliament Road.
