Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced flight diversions at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA).
KQ, in a in customer update issued on Friday, April 10, said passengers traveling on its flights are experiencing delays and disruptions.
According to Kenya Airways, the diversions were prompted by low visibility at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The airline said the weather conditions affected both departures and arrivals at the country’s main airport.

KQ added that the situation significantly disrupted flight schedules, prompting precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety.
“We wish to inform our customers to expect some flight delays for departures and arrivals due to low visibility affecting operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO),” read the notice in part.

The situation has forced Kenya Airways to divert some of its flights to Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
The airline explained that flight diversion is a necessary safety precaution to ensure the safety of all onboard and remains its highest priority.
KQ noted that its teams are monitoring the situation and would resume normal operations once weather conditions at JKIA improve.
Further, the national carrier apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption at JKIA.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding,” the airline added.

KQ Diverts Flights After Heavy Nairobi Rains
This comes a month after KQ warned customers of flight delays following heavy overnight rains that lashed Nairobi and surrounding areas, disrupting flight operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
In a statement posted on X by Kenya Airways on March 7, 2026, the airline confirmed that intense downpours affected scheduled flights, with some diverted to Mombasa.
The disruptions extended into Saturday’s timetable, prompting passengers to prepare for possible schedule changes.
“The heavy overnight downpour in parts of Nairobi and its environs caused disruption to some of our scheduled flights. Due to the adverse weather conditions, some of our flights were also diverted to Mombasa. These disruptions have also affected some of our scheduled flights for today,” the airline said.
