The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a weather outlook detailing expected patterns in the period between June and August 2025. In a statement on May 30, 2025, Kenya Met stated that rainfall during the June-July-August season will be concentrated over the Lake Victoria Basin and the Highlands west of the Rift Valley.
Regions in the Rift Valley, parts of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, isolated areas of the northwestern region, and the Coastal Strip are also expected to receive near to above-average rain during the three-month duration.
“Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) forecast for the June-July-August (JJA) rainfall period suggests that the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, parts of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, and the northwestern regions are likely to receive near to above-average rainfall,” read part of the statement.
Kenya Met Gives Detailed Weather Forecast
Parts of the Highlands west of the Rift Valley and the Central Rift Valley, including Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, and western Laikipia, are expected to receive rainfall with occasional breaks throughout the season.
Rainfall, Kenya Met adds, is likely to be above average, and temperatures will generally be warmer than usual, except in West Pokot, parts of Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and western Laikipia, where cooler temperatures are expected.
Parts of Nyandarua counties, will also experience rainfall with occasional breaks, with total amounts near or above average. While temperatures are expected to be warmer than average.

Highlands & Northwestern Regions
Northwestern regions like Turkana and Samburu counties will mostly be sunny and dry, but some areas may see occasional showers and thunderstorms.
Rainfall in these areas is expected to be above average, and temperatures will generally be cooler than average, except in eastern Samburu where it will be warmer.
The Highlands east of the Rift Valley including Nyandarua South, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Nairobi, and eastern Laikipia counties, are likely to experience cool, cloudy, and foggy weather with occasional light rains, especially in June.
Rainfall is expected to be close to the average, and daytime temperatures may sometimes drop below 18°C.

North-Eastern Regions, Coast & South-Eastern Lowlands
The North-Eastern region, including Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, will mostly be sunny and dry. Some highland areas in Marsabit may have occasional fog and light morning rains. Temperatures will be higher than average, except in western Marsabit near Lake Turkana, where it will be cooler.
The South-Eastern Lowlands including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Tana River, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado counties, will generally be sunny and dry.
However, some areas near the Central Highlands and Nairobi, as well as highlands in Makueni and Taita Taveta, may experience occasional cool, cloudy weather with light rain.
Temperatures are expected to be mostly warmer than average but occasionally cooler near the hills.
The Coastal region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana River, is expected to receive occasional rainfall, with total amounts near or slightly below average.
