KRA Announces Changes to VAT Return Filing Process
This announcement comes after KRA, on December 10, 2024, issued a notice regarding the simplification of VAT return filing for registered taxpayers.
According to the updates, VAT returns will now be pre-filled with tax information already available to KRA, a move aimed at streamlining the filing process.
Key Points from KRA’s Notice:
- Pre-filled VAT Returns: Taxpayers are required to review and confirm the accuracy of these pre-filled returns before submission.
- Electronic Tax Invoicing: Taxpayers were reminded of the obligation to issue electronic tax invoices and transmit invoice details to KRA. Only input VAT claims validated through TIMS/eTIMS or supported by customs import declarations will be eligible for deductions.
- Sensitization and Support: KRA has pledged to provide continued education and support to taxpayers, including hosting virtual training sessions on filing VAT returns using the auto-populated system.
This initiative by KRA aims to reduce the administrative burden on taxpayers, improve compliance, and ensure the accuracy of VAT declarations.
