Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has announced that Kenya will soon establish a Moderna Vaccines Manufacturing Hub in Nairobi with the help of the US government.
This decision emerged following the discussions between the Deputy President and US Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman.
Moreover, the two held discussions on Thursday, October 27 on various issues touching on bilateral cooperation between Kenya and the United States.
“Kenya and the United States have for many decades shared strong bilateral and multilateral relations. Our cooperation and relations can only grow stronger and deeper for the benefit of our future generations,” Gachagua said.
Additionally, Kenya in early March signed a memorandum of understanding with Moderna which is an American biotechnology firm to establish its first mRNA manufacturing facility in Africa.
moreover, the process of setting up the Moderna Vaccine manufacturing Hub in Kenya started back in October 2021 with the aim of meeting demand for Covid-19 vaccines in Africa.
According to Moderna the facility would cost $500 million (Sh57.5 billion) to produce messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines.
Furthermore, DP Gachagua noted that the cooperation and relations between the two states can only grow stronger and deeper for the benefit of future generations of both countries.
Likewise, DP Gachagua and Ambassador Whitman also talked about the conclusion of the process to allow Millennium Challenge Corporation to release $60 million (Sh7.28 billion) grant towards the improvement of Transport System in Nairobi.
