The UK-based International Association for Quality Assurance of Pre-Tertiary and Higher Education (QAHE) has honoured a Kenyan scholar and Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) critic, Prof. Humphrey Oborah.
Oborah who is also the Director of the Council for Accreditation of Experiential Learning (CAEL) was honored for his outstanding efforts in advancing the recognition of gifted and talented individuals across Africa.
Humphrey Oborah was celebrated alongside Dr. Festus C. Daniel from Nigeria and 15 other scholars from various fields.
They were acknowledged as “highly esteemed individuals recognized for their exceptional contributions to the field of education.”
“In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, Prof. Oborah has been awarded the QAHE Honorary Fellowship Award, a testament to his dedication and impact. His journey exemplifies resilience, passion, and the unwavering belief in the potential of every learner, inspiring future generations to embrace and cultivate their unique talents,” QAHE said.
Prof Oborah’s ‘extensive work has been instrumental in shaping policies and practices that support the educational needs of learners with exceptional abilities’ as put by QAHE.
While reacting to the news of his recognition Oborah wrote, “As they belittle me at home and fail to see the unique work I do in the learning sector, I get accolades internationally for the same and this is just one of them.”
Oborah on Missing ‘Science’ in CBC
Oborah remains one of the ignored pioneer brains in the learning revolution in Kenya and probably one of the origins of the CBC.
He ‘fell out’ with his peers in education when he proposed Talent Based Learning pegged on the innate natural talents of individual pupils or learners, as the surest way of determining the strengths of the learners inside and outside the classroom as we all know it.

According to him, the CBC substratum is not different from 8-4-4 because beyond ‘symptoms’ of talents like competence and passion, teachers and parents have no scientific way of extracting metric values of the pupils, which can be used for career prediction.
Oborah uses modern Anthropo-Biometric Kits (3-D optical sensing equipment) capable of extracting human metric values, which he analyzes for various objectives.

This provides a lot of value in that parents and teachers will know where to put money, time and effort in advance, unlike the current situation that uses mere naked eye guesswork.

These experiences inspired him to establish several Gift and Talent Screening Clinics and Specialized Academic Clinics, initiatives designed to identify and nurture exceptional talent among students.
These programs provide crucial resources and support to help students excel both academically and personally.
Beyond his national contributions, the scholar has made a significant impact on the global stage.
As the Secretary-General and CEO of the World Talent Federation, he has dedicated himself to building international networks that promote talent development.
Through his leadership, he has worked to raise awareness about the value of recognizing and fostering giftedness in education, often challenging scepticism and misconceptions surrounding the concept.
