Kenyans have blamed the family of boxing star Conjestina Achieng’ for her relapse after staying at home for two months after leaving the care of Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Sonko leaked phone call recordings with the family of Conjestina, to prove that the boxing star insisted on leaving his team.
The move followed accusations that he abandoned the former boxing star after promising to help her,
In the recordings, Sonko has a conversation with Conjestina’s son Charlton, who informs the former governor that the family intended to take the boxing star to Uganda for prayers.
Charlton proceeded to ask Sonko for some funds adding that they had not raised enough to facilitate their travels to Uganda.
Kenyans accused the family of taking advantage of Sonko’s kindness adding that they should take the blame for Conjestina’s relapse, as they also insisted that she ought to go back home.
“Rehab is expensive and without proper support it is an exercise in futility. The family is the downfall of Conjestina. Please give her a last chance. I hope the family will style up,” one user on X stated.

Sonko on Why Conjestina Left His Care
According to Sonko, Conjestina was upset because he failed to secure a plane ticket for her from Mombasa to Nairobi.
However, Sonko stated that he could not secure the plane tickets because the plane was fully booked, forcing the rest of his crew, including Conjestina to travel using the Standard Guage Railway (SGR).
When they alighted, Conjestina reportedly demanded to be allowed to go back to her home in Siaya, as she was unhappy about the means of transport.
Eventually, Sonko released her from his care and allowed her to go home, where she was reported to have relapsed.

The Way Forward
According to Sonko, despite his efforts to help the former boxer, Conjestina’s family has continued to water down his efforts.
He said that he had already given her two chances to rehabilitate her, and help her improve her life, but Conjestina kept going back to her old ways.
However, Sonko stated that he might give Conjestina a third and final chance at rehabilitation.
“Kenyans, I did my best to help Conjee, but her family watered down my efforts. Fortunately, my heart is bigger than myself.
“At times, I fail to control it for the love I have for the people, especially the less fortunate, and I think this is the reason I initially gave her the first, second, and now maybe I will be forced to give a third and final chance,” stated Sonko.
