Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has outlined a set of conditions Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua must meet before former President Uhuru Kenyatta forgives him.
Speaking during a press briefing on June 18, Kioni emphasized Gachagua’s plea for forgiveness through political rallies while he continues to sabotage the party’s leadership was not enough.
Kioni stressed that the DP must first demonstrate respect for the independence of the Jubilee party and refrain from any attempt to sabotage it.
The former Ndaragwa MP said that certain leaders including East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege were working closely with the DP to undermine the party.
Kioni urged Gachagua to “release” the Jubilee Party, questioning his continued involvement if he is seeking forgiveness.
Kioni Warns Gachagua Against Interfering with Jubilee
“If you really want us to believe that you are apologizing, release his (Kenyatta’s) Jubilee Party. What are you doing in the party?”

“Those who are in court, including Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege, have been seeking an apology from Uhuru,” said Kioni.
Additionally, Kioni revealed that the party had received apologies from other members within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) faction but declined to mention them.
Gachagua Expresses Willingness to work with Uhuru
Kioni’s remarks come days after DP Gachagua extended an olive branch to former president Uhuru Kenyatta and expressed his willingness to work with him.
In a past rally, Gachagua said that the entire Mount Kenya Region had been misled into hating and that this was a mistake that should never happen again.
Additionally, while speaking in Nyeri on Saturday June 15, Gachagua said he is being fought over his decision to reconcile with Uhuru.
He questioned why he shouldn’t work with Uhuru, yet President William Ruto also reconciled with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Demands Regarding the Finance Bill
Similarly, another condition set for those seeking an apology from Uhuru Kenyatta is to reject the controversial Finance Bill 2024 in its entirety.
Kioni noted that the Jubilee party’s position on the matter was that the Finance Bill, 2024 must be rejected.
He further warned members that action would be taken against those who would vote contrary to the party’s position.

“The party constitution spells that very clearly; that disciplinary action will be taken against anyone who will defy. It is not the party you’re defying; you are being contemptuous to the people who voted for you. They have rejected the Bill,” he said.
Furthermore, the party called on President Ruto to heed the voice of Kenyans protesting against the Finance Bill, which they believe will further burden an already overtaxed population.
“The proposed amendments to the Finance Bill by the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group are a bait to deceive Kenyans that their views have been heard. Kenyans have spoken loudly that they have rejected the entire Finance Bill.”
