The Ahero sub-county hospital in Kisumu County has halted the admission of male patients.
According to the facility’s management, the decision to stop the admission of male inpatients is due to shortage of nurses.
In a memo, Bernadette Achieng, the hospital’s acting medical superintendent says female patients will now occupy the male wards.
“Due to shortage of staff in the Nursing Department, there will be a temporary closure of the male medical ward, therefore there will be no admission of male patients,” the memo dated October 27, 2022, reads in parts.
“Consequently, pediatric ward will shift to female medical ward and the male medical ward to be occupied by female patients.
“This will take effect immediately,” the memo added.
