The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has warned the public over fraudsters who are offering counterfeit upgrades for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) grades.
In a statement on May 27, KNEC flagged an online post from a fake duplicate account impersonating them and warned Kenyans not to fall prey to scammers claiming to be KNEC agents.
“Fake post alert! Please do not fall prey to fraudsters claiming to be Kenya National Examination Council agents. KNEC only communicates through its official social media pages and website,” the council shared on X.
The notice shared showed several KCSE certificates displayed on the fake Facebook account.

KNEC Fake Account Used by Fraudsters
The fake KNEC account deceitfully asserted the ability to process KCSE, KCPE, diploma, and degree certificates.
Additionally, the fraudsters falsely claimed to offer services for replacing lost certificates and correcting errors.

“Kenya National Examination Council certificate processing for KCSE, KCPE, Diploma, Degree, Marks Upgrade, Replacement of Lost, Error Correction,” read part of the fake post.
Regarding inquiries concerning lost certificates and replacements, the fraudsters directed individuals to a WhatsApp group link which requires an admin approval to join.
The WhatsApp group was created on 30th October 2023 and has over 700 members.
However, only admins are allowed to post anything or an update on the group.
A notice on the group reads “IMPORTANT UPDATE: Grade upgrades slots for; 2000 – 2023 KCSE Candidates. If you did KCSE between 2000 – 2023 and your grade denies you opportunities, this is your time to make it right. “
“You also get your results slip and certificate. Those who were less fortunate and did not manage to do their KCSE can also get results slips and certificates. Talk to admin.”

How to Confirm the Official KNEC Account
In the fake account, the word “Kenya National Examination Council” appears written at the bottom of the logo, whereas the original and main KNEC account only features the logo as the profile image.
It’s also noteworthy that the Examination Council’s Facebook account features a blue checkmark indicating verification, unlike the fake account which is labeled “sponsored.”
A person can apply for replacement of a lost Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) certificates through the link https://qmis.kne.ac.ke.
