Chief Justice ( CJ) Martha Koome has announced the designation of 129 judicial officers as Adjudicators.
In a gazette notice dated September 26, CJ Koome stated that the officers will serve as Adjudicators for the next year, effective September 1.
An adjudicator is an individual who hears and settles disputes, often outside the traditional court process.
In Kenya, this usually means they will handle certain cases or disputes (for example, small claims, tribunals, or specialized matters) to speed up access to justice.
“In exercise if the powers conferred by section 6(2) of the Small Claims Court Act, 2016, I, Martha K. Koome, Chief Justice, and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya designates the following Judicial Officers as Adjudicators in any proceedings under the Act in the areas of jurisdiction of their current court stations and future stations deployed to from time to time, for a period of twelve (12) months, with effect from the 1st September, 2025,” read the notice in part.
