Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned electricity interruptions across several parts of the country on Thursday, 28th May 2026.
According to the national grid, interruptions are part of the ongoing network maintenance.
Scheduled outages will affect selected areas in Nairobi, North Rift, and the Mt. Kenya region, with interruptions expected to last between 8 and 10 hours, depending on the location.
The company has indicated that the maintenance exercise will be during the day, with most affected areas experiencing power loss from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. In some locations, restoration may extend to 6.00 p.m.
Nairobi Region Hit by Major 8-Hour Maintenance Outage
In the Nairobi Region, several areas will be affected by the planned interruption starting from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Parts of Zimmerman will experience an 8-hour blackout affecting areas such as Car Wash Zimmerman, the Seventh Day Adventist vicinity, and adjacent areas.
Gumba Estate will also be impacted, including Gumba Estate, Mbinda, and the surrounding areas.
Ngong Road, one of Nairobi’s busiest commercial and residential zones, will be the most affected.
Affected locations include sections of Ngong Road, Dagoretti Corner, Jockey Club, War Memorial Cemetery, sections of the Talanta Stadium area, Meteorological Department facilities, and Nairobi City County staff housing.
Key institutions and businesses within the outage zone include The Junction Mall, Braeburn School, Rusinga School, Melchizedek Hospital, and multiple commercial establishments along Riara Road, Gitanga Road, Naivasha Road, and Kawangware estates.
Other areas affected in the scheduled maintenance include Kawangware Deliverance, Kawangware Congo and Coast, Wanyee Road, Kinyanjui Road, and Kingara Road
Naivasha Road and Surrounding Estates Also Affected
Naivasha Road and adjoining neighborhoods will also experience a scheduled power interruption. Power interruption in these areas is scheduled from 9 AM to 5 PM, running for 8 hours.
The blackout will cover Racecourse, Ngando (near Mama Wahu), Chogi Road, Talanta area, Dagoretti Corner Karandini Road, and the Shell Naivasha Road section.
Other affected zones include Deliverance Kawangware Congo, Braeburn School, Rusinga School, Kawangware 48, St. Francis Catholic Church area, Gitanga Road, Co-operative Bank surroundings, Wanyee Road, Githembe, Mutindwa, Kinyanjui Road, Nyakinyua Road, Ngotho Road, Riruta Satellite Shopping Center, Riruta Police Station, Riruta Primary School, Kabiria Road, and Lepic School.

North Rift and Mt. Kenya Regions Scheduled for Power Maintenance
Kenya Power has also scheduled outages in parts of Uasin Gishu County in the North Rift region.
In Uasin Gishu, areas expected to be affected include Bayete, Kerita, Kitingia, Cherus, Ndungulu, Kaptega, Kapsundei, Sengalo, Chereber, Kapchorwa, Ndanai, Ngarua, Kondoo, Kapkeno, Languse, and Cheboror. These areas will experience power interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
In Nandi County, the Arwos area will experience a separate interruption from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. The affected locations include Cheribisi, Arwos Center, and St. Roberts Arwos, as well as nearby customers connected to the same distribution line.
In the Mt. Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County will also be affected from 9 AM to 5 PM. The scheduled outage will cover Mweru, Ngamwa, Karaba Dispensary, Mahuri Farm, Mutonga, Kabuta Market, Kigetuini, Kimathi, Rutune Primary School, Mitundu, Kangure, Kambwe, Kaini, Gumba Dispensary, Kariara Mawe, Geitwa, and Kibuu, among other surrounding areas connected to the local grid network.
