Kenya Airways (KQ) has issued an update on the flight schedules disruptions that occurred on Sunday May 19.
In a statement on May 22, KQ noted that they have acquired the necessary engine component needed for the aircraft that was affected, adding that operations would resume in 24 hours.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that we have received the necessary engine components for one of the affected aircraft. As a result, we anticipate having it back in operation within the next 24hours,” the statement read.
The airline said a dedicated team has been working over the past few days during the disruption to readjust the network and schedules as well as proactively communicating with affected passengers to maintain smooth operations.
KQ recognized the importance of the passengers’ travel plans and their responsibility to offer them a seamless and hassle-free experience.
Additionally, the airline apologized for the inconvenience caused, citing circumstances beyond their control.
“Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control led to this disruption, and for that, we sincerely apologize. Your patience and understanding during this challenging time are greatly appreciated, and grateful for your continued support,” the statement read.
KQ also revealed that their network was gradually returning to normal and assured that they were working swiftly to resolve the issue.

Kenya Airways Flight Disruptions
In the May 19th statement KQ explained that the flight disruptions were due to the unscheduled grounding of two of their 787 Dreamliners.

The grounding was caused by delays in the delivery of engine and engine components which also affected the availability of flight crew in some regional flights.
“We would like to inform our customers that we are experiencing some disruptions in our flight schedules, which are leading to abnormally high levels of delays,”

“The main reason for these disruptions is the unscheduled and extended grounding of two of our 787 Dreamliners due to delayed engine and engine components delivery. The flight disruption has also been impacted by the unavailability of our flight crew for some regional flights,” the statement read in part.
Kenya Airways listed strategies they are undertaking to mitigate the disruptions.
These included readjusting it’s network and communicating proactively with the affected customers.
The Airline said it will also speed up recovery of the grounded aircraft and adjust its schedule to minimize the disruption.
